THE 2015 Pooley Family Reserve Pinot Noir is our iconic wine.
Sourced from the original block (10 short rows) of Pinot Noir planted by Denis and Margaret at Cooinda Vale Estate in 1985. The 2015 vintage displays a powerful and intoxicating nose of vanilla spiced rhubarb, ripe red cherries and wild raspberry with lifted cedary spice. Generous palate, classic ‘peacock’ structure with impeccable acid profile. Fine tannin that lingers through the finish – incredible length. Long term cellar potential. Very limited.

This wine may not be produced every year and will always be limited in volume. It represents our greatest expression of Tasmania’s best Pinot Noir.
“The 2015 vintage was one of the coolest vintages in ten years. It was a mild spring and apart from some frost in isolated sites, the conditions were mostly favorable across our vineyards. Summer was cool with low minimums and not a lot of sunshine. We had close to average rainfall and the vines were balanced with healthy canopies. Ripening commenced up to 10 days earlier than average. This was a factor of good vine health, adequate rainfall, no extreme heat and low crop levels. Quality is excellent across all varieties although volumes are very limited. The 2015 vintage will have very good cellaring potential”.

Fruit was handpicked then bunch sorted at the winery. Fruit was 100% destemmed but not crushed. Fermentation carried out in a 1 tonne open fermenter which was hand plunged twice daily for 10 days. A 7 day post ferment maceration ensued.
The ferment was then drained and pressed to tank where it settled for 2 days and was then sent to two barriques (50% New). The wine then matured in barrel for 12 months prior to bottling.
