Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is a wonderfully rich, but graceful, red wine that is versatile and food-friendly. The best Pinot Noirs are seductively enchanting in their aromatics, complex flavours and long silky textures. Most Pinots are drinkable when young but the rewards are great when cellared for a little time.

In recent years, Pinot Noir’s potential for greatness has been discovered by Tasmanian producers. Pinot likes cool sites with long, mild growing seasons, lending itself well to Tasmanian conditions.

Although the grape is fragile and difficult to grow, we have taken up the challenge with passion, creativity and success. The grape’s lower sugar, higher acid and lower pH contribute to wines with greater ageing potential yet with relative delicacy. Fastidious vineyard management, early harvesting, cool climate, small hand-plunged ferments, careful wine handling and small barrel ageing all contribute to our delightful mature Pinot Noirs.

We are passionate about all the wines we produce but we pay extra attention to our Pinots because they are our most important variety. Pinot offers a diversity of style for us to explore. We are producing wines from aged vines (in the Family Reserve and Reserve Range) which have reduced yields but produce mature and balanced wines.
