The results of two prestigious wine shows for growers producing 250 tonnes (or less) per annum were announced last week in Sydney.
The first was the Boutique Wine awards 2011 and the Trophy winners were announced at a Gala Dinner held at Sydney’s Four Seasons Hotel. The Tasmanian wines to take out top awards were:
The second wine show was the Wine Wise Small Vigneron Awards 2011
Matthew Pooley, wine maker and vigneron for Pooley Wines, said "We are delighted with our wins in these two important wine shows. This proves that our policy of producing high quality grapes, by careful management in the vineyards, will reap the rewards in the long run. Not over producing and focusing on quality through all the steps of production is the right policy."
Asked about the importance of terroir in his wines, Mr Pooley said, "The Coal River valley has amazing soils and the climate has very important attributes for producing superior wines of world class standards. These awards prove it."
