The first was the Boutique Wine awards 2011 and the Trophy winners were announced at a Gala Dinner held at Sydney’s Four Seasons Hotel. The Tasmanian wines to take out top awards were:

• Best Sparkling wine, all vintages and non vintage. 
  Pooley’s 2008 Matilda ... scoring 54 points and topping 30 other Australian and New Zealand sparkling wines.
• Best Sauvignon Blanc
  Trophy was won by 2010 Bream Creek ... surprising the Kiwi competition.

The second wine show was the Wine Wise Small Vigneron Awards 2011

• Trophy for best Riesling
  Awarded to Margaret Pooley Tribute Riesling 2010.

Matthew Pooley, wine maker and vigneron for Pooley Wines, said "We are delighted with our wins in these two important wine shows. This proves that our policy of producing high quality grapes, by careful management in the vineyards, will reap the rewards in the long run. Not over producing and focusing on quality through all the steps of production is the right policy."

Asked about the importance of terroir in his wines, Mr Pooley said, "The Coal River valley has amazing soils and the climate has very important attributes for producing superior wines of world class standards. These awards prove it."

The Chairman of the Judging Panel, Gary Baldwin (Wine Network Consulting) described the wine as:

A fresh, fruity, crisp 2008 Sparkling Pinot Chardonnay –
wonderful line and length.

Gary's recommended food match? Natural oysters with lime and chilli.

At the Awards Dinner held at Meadowbank Vineyard, Matthew Pooley was thrilled to accept the "Peoples Choice" award for his 2009 Family Reserve Pinot Noir, a wine he has grown and made himself from the original vines planted at Campania. When asked about his award, Matthew said “What an honour to win this award and a great credit to all the team involved in growing these vines. It is evident that vine maturity has contributed to this wonderful wine”.

Judging is conducted on a regional basis which showcases the individual characteristics unique to the wines’ location in the world.

Pooley Wines 2010 Late Harvest Riesling was awarded a Gold Medal at this event. This wine was also named in the "Top Ten Rieslings in Australia". 

In November 2010, we will be releasing Pooleys first white sparkling wine. This wine will be called ‘Matilda’ – named after our founders’ Great Grand Daughter Matilda Pooley.

Pooley Wines 2008 Family Reserve Pinot Noir (not yet released), was one of the few Pinot Noir wines to win GOLD. This exceptional wine was made by Matthew Pooley from our 25 year old vines.
