The 2015 vintage was one of the coolest vintages in ten years and not dissimilar to 2011. It was a mild spring and apart from some frost in isolated sites, the conditions were mostly favourable across the state. Quality is excellent across all varieties although volumes are very limited. Wines from the 2015 vintage will have very good cellaring potential.

All of the fruit is sourced from a single vineyard site, Lake Barrington. The vineyard is located on the North-West coast of Tasmania. Nestled below the towering Mount Roland on a North facing site, the vineyard has an elevation of 300m above sea level and gently slopes downward toward the lake.

Rich brown clay-based tertiary basalt (Ferrosol) soil makes up the site’s 1.3 hectares of vines. The iron-rich basalt soil has shed down from rock in the surrounding hills over millions of years. The layer of rich clay soil lies on top of Cambrian volcanic/sedimentary rock and the interface between the two layers provides for natural water flow.

The cooler climate of this north-western region leads to slower ripening over a longer season and combined with the naturally acidic ferrosol soils, produces grapes of complex flavours and high acidity which are ideal for sparkling wine.

51.5% Chardonnay and 48.5% Pinot Noir. Yeast Strain used in fermentation is IOC 18-2007. Tirage completed on 08/10/2015. 6 years on lees, disgorged late-June 2021.
